What
is Chiropractic? |
| |
Chiropractic
is that discipline of healthcare specifically devoted to removing
interference from the nervous system, thereby removing obstacles
to your optimal health. Chiropractic treatment is designed to
correct the problem, not mask the symptoms. It improves skeletal,
muscular and nervous-system disorders naturally, without the
use of expensive drugs and surgery.
Chiropractic
allows the body to heal itself by reestablishing proper communication
between the brain and every tissue and organ in your body, focusing
on the inherent ability of the body to heal without the use
of drugs or surgery. This essential goal has remained unchanged
since chiropractic was established as a natural healthcare option
a little over a century ago. |

What
does a chiropractor do? |
| |
As
a Doctor of Chiropractic I work with the musculoskeletal and
neurological systems which control every function of your body
- glandular, reproductive, digestive, eliminative, respiratory
and circulatory. Complete, natural health comes only when you
have a normally functioning nervous system. I help my patients
achieve optimal health by reestablishing balance between the
structural [primarily the spine] and the functional [primarily
coordinated by the nervous system] aspects of the body.
My avenue
of approach is the SPINE because it houses and protects the
spinal cord, the switchboard of the nervous system. The nerves
originate in your brain and feed through your spinal cord reaching
out to every tissue in your body through passages between the
movable spinal bones called vertebrae. Between each vertebrae
there is a disc. The purpose of the disc is to absorb shock
by acting as a cushion and allowing mobility of the spine. Injuries,
poor posture, a sedentary life, or periodic bouts of exercise,
the aging process, any and all of these factors may give rise
to health conditions. If your spine is misaligned, the passages
between the vertebrae may be compressed and the nerves exiting
from them may become irritated by the abnormal pressure exerted
upon them. Misalignment of the vertebrae, compressing the discs
between them, is called a SUBLUXATION. Subluxations interfere
with the normal functioning of the nerves eventually causing
you pain and disease. Adjusting the subluxation [putting the
bones back in place] will relieve nerve interference, and alleviate
pain and disability, allowing the body to start HEALING.

How
do we achieve healing? |
| |
HEALING
is achieved by first relieving the pain or discomfort you might
be experiencing. The chiropractor does this by identifying the
cause of the symptoms, correcting the problem, and realigning
the spine.
Sometimes
relief is achieved with the first chiropractic adjustment, but
this is the exception. While chiropractic care has a good track
record of success in relieving acute pain fairly quickly, records
show that only about 30% of the patients get relief within the
first few visits, the remaining percentage of patients require
a longer period of time to stabilize their condition due to
the nature, severity, and duration of their conditions. Other
factors influencing how long it will take are your age, physical
condition, previous history of accidents and surgeries, any
current illness you may have, how well you follow instructions,
keep appointments, even your mental attitude.
